Victims of past Childhood Sexual Abuse may be entitled to Civil Remedy
Childhood Sexual Abuse
It is startling to think of childhood sexual abuse as a problem which is widespread and rampant in our society; but in fact, the statistics support this morbid proposition. According to the national child abuse and neglect data system, in 2003, there were 78,188 reported cases of childhood sexual abuse.http://www.fosteringperspectives.org/fp_v10n2/stats.htm (Douglas & Finkelhor, 2005) Although teens are at a higher risk, children of all ages are potential victims. A compounding factor to this problem is that these crimes often go unreported. The subjects of this deplorable behavior are victimized not only by the abuse itself, but also by the concealment of the abuse by individuals who were aware of it, but failed to hold the perpetrators accountable. The partners at Drivon, Turner and Waters believe that victims of past childhood sexual abuse may be entitled to civil remedy.
