Dog Bites

May 01, 2012 @ 03:10 PM — by Zach Drivon

Commonly referred to as Man's best friend, dogs' play the role of companion, guardian and protector of our homes and families. Some are pint sized alarms who couldn't hurt a fly; and even most of the 'big dogs' have more bark than bite. We keep them in and around our homes because there is a kinship and affection shared between humans and dogs; one which has held true for thousands of years. However, dogs can also prove to be hazardous when  aggressive behavior threatens a person. Many of us own and love our pet canines, but many of us also know at least one person who has been injured as a result of a dog bite

Dangerous Conditions on Public Property

April 19, 2012 @ 09:39 AM — by Zach Drivon

An dangerous condition on property is one that creates a substantial risk of injury when the property is used with due care in a manner in which it is reasonably foreseeable that it will be used. Both private property owners and public entities can be held liable for injuries sustained on their property as a result of an existing dangerous condition. 'Substantial risk' is determined by the nature in which the injury occurred, as well as an assessment of all of the surrounding circumstances. This type of law is known as premises liability, however the legal standard differs for private owners and public entities.

Drunk Driving

March 27, 2012 @ 01:45 PM — by Zach Drivon

Alcohol consumption has been a common form of communal socialization from the time of our country's inception, and indeed for thousands of years prior. However, the detrimental effects of consumption often outweigh any social (let alone health) benefits, in decreasing inhibitions, increasing compulsive behavior, and causing individuals to lose control of themselves. One of the ways in which the ills of consumption manifests itself, is when an intoxicated person chooses to get behind the wheel of a car. Despite a broad awareness of the danger of drunk driving, as well as hefty fines, and criminal penalties for repeated offenses, studies show that one person dies in a drunk driving collision every 50 minutes. http://www.madd.org/statistics/ Drunk driving is prevalent across the country, and constitutes an absolute violation of a persons duty to exercise reasonable care in the operation of their vehicle, otherwise known as negligence.

Negligent Driving

January 19, 2012 @ 03:10 PM — by Zach Drivon

Negligent Driving Habits

Negligent driving is characterized as operating an automobile in a manner that could endanger other people or property. Historically, the most concerning negligent driving practice has been drunk driving. However, recent statistics show that drunk driving incidents and fatalities have been on the decline. Modernly, drunk driving fatalities are more likely to be perpetrated by an alcoholic, as opposed to a recreational drinker. Moreover, the average blood alcohol level of a drunk driver involved in a fatal crash is (.19); more than twice the legal limit. Nevertheless, over the last 20 years, while drunk driving fatalities have decreased, overall traffic traffic fatalities have increased. http://negligentdriving.com/

The effects of Spinal cord injury

January 17, 2012 @ 11:40 AM — by Zach Drivon

The bundle of nerves and backbones which make up the spinal column, is the most essential component of the human body, with the exception of the brain. The spinal cord extends from the base of the brain, along the middle of the back, and down to the waist. Its function is to carry messages back and forth, from the brain to nerves along the spinal tract, and other parts of the body, through the upper and lower motor nuerons. This allows sensory messages to be conveyed to the brain and facilitates the initiation of muscle movement. This mechanism is known as the central nervous system.http://www.spinalinjury.net/html/_spinal_cord_101.html
