What are some reasons truck accidents happen?

As a driver of a smaller vehicle, you know what it's like to be surrounded by large commercial trucks when you're driving. It can be intimidating to have large vehicles racing by you on the highway or coming up behind you at a stop light. It can be distracting and hard to see around them, too.

If you're rear-ended or get into an accident because the driver doesn't see you, you could be left with serious injuries or have to suffer the death of a loved one. The vehicles simply have too large of a difference in weights, so small vehicles can be crushed on impact.

To keep yourself safer on the roads, it's important to know the common causes of truck accidents. While some are caused by other vehicles, many are caused by the drivers of the commercial vehicles themselves. Sometimes, the driver is inadequately trained, and other times, he could be speeding to meet a deadline.

If you notice a truck speeding, the best thing you can do is to get out of the way. Once the vehicle passes, it won't be a threat to you any more. If you see the vehicle weaving in traffic or passing into lanes dangerously, you may want to consider pulling over and calling the police in the area, so the driver can be stopped.

Sometimes, drivers don't get enough sleep and end up falling asleep behind the wheel. If you notice someone who is nodding off or who looks asleep, honk and try to stay out of the way. Drive defensively, so you can protect yourself.
