What are some causes of truck accidents?

The way drivers behave on the road has a lot to do with the safety of others and themselves. Drivers who are distracted or speeding put the lives of others at risk; those who aren't paying attention simply can't stop in time to prevent accidents and can end up in the wrong lanes of traffic due to their mistakes. These simple mistakes can take the lives of others and cause a lifetime of pain and suffering for families.

In 2012, it was estimated that 33,561 people were killed in vehicular accidents, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. That's a disturbingly high amount of fatalities, especially when people should be aware of the dangers of being a distracted driver. Of course, some accidents will always be out of a drivers' control, but there are reasons why so many accidents tend to happen that are primarily preventable.

The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that speeding was a top cause crashes involving large trucks. This could be due to needing to deliver goods on time, since commercial vehicles carry items across the country in some cases. However, speeding can't be allowed, since it's so dangerous to the driver and others on the road. Distractions, impairment and the failure to stay in the correct lane are the other major causes of accidents.

As someone who has been in a truck accident, you know that you can make a claim for compensation. The numbers provided by the government can help you show how dangerous these drivers can be, which can strengthen your case overall.
